“The Joshua Files – Invisible City” spotted in Oxford city centre WHSmith’s. Face out, eye-level and a nice stack of them, hurray!
A casual stroll through Oxford today resulted in a first-sighting of ‘Invisible City’ in the shops, almost 2 weeks before the official publication. I only went into Waterstones, WHSmith’s in Oxford and The Book House in Summertown but they all had at least one copy – and Smith’s had loads!
Very exciting. And strange, strange feeling of disconnection.
It’s also in stock on Amazon.co.uk.
Go on then, buy it! (please) Read it and post 5-star mega reviews on Amazon (pretty please)!
But remember what our mothers taught us: If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

Now that’s ‘book’ indeed! Looks every bit as gorgeous as expected. And hurrah for distribution that’s so efficient that it arrives EARLY. Smiths are normally crap about getting numbers of copies too, so they must love you very much. 🙂
Will be getting my mitts on it asap. May I be first in line to be rubber-stamped?
So come on, then: how did it feel to find yourself on the shelf?
Susie – of course you can be first in the queue! (after Lukas)
I dunno how long they take to make the Mayan glyph stamp…
How did it feel? Hmm – well a) like it was something only vaguely related to me b) daunting, amongst all the other thousands of books people can choose c) really excited that all my friends can read it now d) totally bloody amazing on account of the general coolness of the design!
I actually wanted to buy one! But no; I’m hanging in there for my author’s discount.
I mean the general BOOKness of the design. Duh.
Sorry, I tried it out here in Brackers – neither Waterstones nor WH Smith were prestocking… so I bought myself (unnecessarily) a copy of Cormac McCarthy’s No Country For Old Men (that’ll teach the local cinemas for not running it at all) – I swear I live in the anti-cultural centre of the world.
At least it was half price, and with the £2 remaining on my Waterstone gift card, I can pretend it only cost me £1.99
Everyone’s a winner.
I see your “If you can’t say something nice…” and raise you Noel Coward’s “I can take any amount of criticism, so long as it is unqualified praise”.
How fab that you get it in Oxford first! I was in Daunt in London yesterday and it wasn’t there, yet. I ordered my copy from Amazon, anyway. Big huge congratulations. You’re a star! (I plugged it on WW and on my lj).
Hey Sarah, thanks for the plugs!! Gah, the narcissistic part of me is tempted to join WW again just to read what people write…but I have vowed to cut down my online activities and I can afford no more than ONE writer’s group…
Trust you to produce a more erudite, stylish quotation than what I come up with.
It IS Fab that you can get it first in Oxford! I must find a way to mobilise small armies of young people to go buy it…
Rich – sorry you were thwarted! I can’t believe they aren’t showing that film! Btw – Javier Bardem would be in my top 2 ideal choices for Carlos Montoyo.
Just had an email from a fellow Governor at school – sold out in Waterstone’s Oxford…
Sold out?! FAB!!! The comments on WW are lovely. Do you want me to cut and paste them to you?
Sheesh…can you believe that I’m so in need of validation that I DO…? (But please email them to me…don’t paste here!)
OMFG
No fair! That’s just shmeevil (evil) They can’t have them in Oxford first! darn it. I have a longing for that slipcase! I’ll check out my smiths and waterstones on saturday. If they don’t have any then i expect they are solg out. 😀
That’s just normal human reaction – and I wouldn’t have dreamed of pasting here! I’ll email the handful through so far and keep you posted as they come in. Everyone remembers you fondly and loves the look of the book. They’re a good bunch at heart.
Theyre not showing no country for old men near you either!? It’s not showing on The Isle Of Wight either!
